Seven worksheets for the 100th day of school, the day in late January or February when a kindergarten or first grade class celebrates reaching 100 days. The number 100 is the point of the day, so every sheet here is built around it: a 1 to 100 chart with every third number missing, counting by tens on tracks and in groups of dots, ten ten-frames that hold exactly 100, coins that make a dollar, a tally page for counting 100 of anything, a writing page about being 100 years old and a word search of 100th day words. Pictures are bold outlines that print cleanly in black and white, and every sheet with answers has its key on page 2.

What's in this set

  1. Fill in the 100 chart. A 1 to 100 chart with every third number missing (33 blanks). Children count on from the number before each box or look at the number above it, then count how many numbers they wrote in. The tens column is shaded.
  2. Count by 10s to 100. Three count-by-tens tracks with missing numbers, the last counting back from 100, then 100 dots in ten groups of ten: color each group a different color and write the running total (10, 20, 30 to 100) under each.
  3. 100 in ten frames. Ten empty ten frames to fill with dots, stickers or a stamp. Children write the total so far beside each frame and finish with 100 = 10 tens.
  4. 100 cents make a dollar. Six make-a-dollar problems with dimes, nickels and pennies. Children write the value of each coin group, then find the missing coin count that brings the total to exactly 100¢.
  5. When I am 100 years old. A drawing box for a self-portrait at 100, a line to work out which year that will be, and four sentence starters with handwriting lines.
  6. Tally 100 things. Ten boxes with faint tally guides for 10 marks each and running totals from 10 to 100, so counting 100 cereal pieces, buttons or jumps stays organised. Ten balloons to color as the boxes fill.
  7. 100th day word search. Ten words in a 12 by 12 grid, across, down and diagonally: hundred, celebrate, count, tens, ones, school, days, number, party, collection.

Teaching tips and common mistakes

How to use these worksheets

Print at 100% on A4 or US Letter; print page 1 for children and keep page 2 to mark. The 100 chart, ten frames, tally page and writing page suit kindergarten and first grade; counting back by tens and 100 cents are first and second grade work. Most classes run the sheets as stations through the morning of the 100th day.

  • Fill in the 100 chart. Blanks fall on every third number, so a child cannot just copy a column pattern; they have to count on. Ask early finishers to shade the missing numbers that are also in the fives column (15, 45, 75) and explain what they notice.
  • Count by 10s to 100. Start with the two forward tracks, then the count-back track, which is new for most first graders. In part 2 insist on a different color per group so the ten tens stay visible when children count by tens.
  • 100 in ten frames. Works best with a bingo dabber or 100 small stickers: one frame is 10, so when the page is full the child has made 100 and can see it. Point to the running totals to count by tens together.
  • 100 cents make a dollar. Have real or plastic coins on the table. Children build the given coins first, count the value, then add the missing coin one at a time until they reach 100¢. The key gives the count and every subtotal.
  • When I am 100 years old. The first line is a small math problem (100 minus my age, added to this year). Do it together on the board before children write. The portraits make a quick corridor display.
  • Tally 100 things. Send it home the night before with a bag of 100 things, or use it in class for 100 jumps or 100 steps. Children trace the faint marks so every box ends up with exactly ten and the totals along the bottom read 10 to 100.
  • 100th day word search. A calm ten-minute activity after the louder stations. Read the word list aloud first for kindergarten; first graders can work alone.

Making it a 100th day celebration

  • 100 collection. Children bring 100 small things from home (buttons, pasta, pennies). The tally page counts them, and the ten frames or the dot groups show the same 100 in a different arrangement.
  • 100 cents shop. After the coin sheet, set up a table where everything costs 100¢ and children pay with any mix of dimes, nickels and pennies.
  • Chart race. Time the class filling the 100 chart on the first day of school's 100th week, then again a month later. Children love seeing the time fall.

Common issues to watch for

  • Crossing the decade. Children often write 59 then 70, or 69 then 60. The chart's shaded tens column is a prompt: the next row always starts one more than the ten at the end of the row above.
  • Counting back. On the 100, 90, 80 track some children write 100, 90, 70. Ask them to count back aloud on their fingers before writing.
  • Coins by count instead of value. A child with 8 dimes and 2 nickels may write 10¢ because there are ten coins. The sheet asks for each group's value separately, which exposes this quickly.

Frequently asked questions

When is the 100th day of school?

It depends on the start date and calendar, but for most US schools it falls between late January and mid February. Count school days, not calendar days, and skip holidays and snow days. Many classes keep a daily counter from the first day so the 100th day arrives with no surprise.

What age are these 100th day worksheets for?

Kindergarten to second grade, roughly ages 5 to 8. The 100 chart, ten frames, tally page and writing page are kindergarten and first grade work; the count-back track and 100 cents suit first and second grade.

Do the worksheets include answer keys?

Yes, every sheet that has answers (the 100 chart, count by 10s, ten frames, 100 cents and the word search) has its key on page 2. The writing page and the tally page are single pages with nothing to mark.

Can I print them in black and white?

Yes. Every picture is drawn with a solid dark outline, and the fill-in boxes are dashed, so the sheets stay clear on a mono printer. Only the color by group dots and the balloons on the tally page ask children to add color themselves.

Is this set free for classroom use?

Yes, for non-commercial educational use: a class set, a homeschool group or a 100th day party at home are all fine.

More practice

The hundreds chart worksheets have filled, blank and missing-number charts for the weeks before and after the 100th day, and the hundreds chart generator makes a chart with exactly the blanks you choose. For counting by tens and other steps see the skip counting worksheets; the ten frame worksheets and place value worksheets build the tens-and-ones idea behind 100. The counting money worksheets continue the dimes, nickels and pennies work, and the word search printables have more puzzles in the same style.
