Six New Year worksheets for the first week back in January, when a class is still half on holiday and a teacher needs something short, calm and worth keeping. The sheets move from drawing and sentence starters (kindergarten to grade 2) to goals in four areas and a habit tracker (grades 2 to 5), so one set covers an elementary school or a family with children of different ages. The year is printed as 2027 where a year is needed; the reflection sheet, the habit tracker and the word search carry no year, so they work every January. All six print on A4 or US Letter with bold outlines that stay clear in black and white.

Teaching tips and common mistakes
How to use these worksheets
Print at 100% on A4 or US Letter. Pick one or two sheets for the age group rather than the whole set: resolutions and sentence starters for the youngest, the four-area goals and the habit tracker for grades 2 and up. The word search is a quiet finisher for everyone.
- My New Year's resolutions 2027. Talk about the difference between a wish ("I want a puppy") and a resolution ("I will feed the dog every morning") before anyone writes. Three boxes is enough; one good resolution per box beats a list.
- In 2027 I will: sentence starters. Have children say each sentence aloud to a partner first. The six starters are deliberately varied so that at least one lands for every child; let them skip one if nothing comes.
- Looking back, looking ahead. Do the left side first and as a class if the children are young; the memories come faster when others share theirs. The right side is private writing.
- My goals for 2027. Insist on the "I will know I did it when" line. A goal with evidence ("I can tie my shoes without help") is the one children actually reach.
- New Year habit tracker. Keep the habits small and daily (read 10 minutes, pack my bag the night before). Pin the sheet where it will be seen each day; the running "days done out of 28" box is the motivator.
- New Year word search. Read the twelve words together first and ask what each has to do with New Year. Then it is independent work; the key on page 2 lets children check themselves.
Making it a New Year lesson
- Time capsule. Seal the resolutions sheet in an envelope and open it in June. Children love seeing what they promised in January.
- Class resolution. After the individual sheets, agree one resolution for the whole class and track it on a shared habit tracker.
- Display. The four-area goals sheet, with its 2027 badge, makes a quick January noticeboard when every child's page is pinned side by side.
Common issues to watch for
- Resolutions that are really wishes. "Get a dog" or "win the game" are outcomes the child cannot control. Steer them to actions they can do themselves.
- Too many habits. Four rows on the tracker does not mean four habits are required. One or two habits tracked for four weeks is a success; four abandoned after a week is not.
- Empty picture boxes. Some children freeze at "draw it". A stick figure doing the thing is enough; the drawing is a reminder, not art.
Frequently asked questions
What age are these New Year's resolution worksheets for?
Kindergarten to grade 5, roughly ages 5 to 11. The resolutions page and the sentence starters have handwriting lines with a dashed midline for early writers; the four-area goals, habit tracker and word search suit grades 2 to 5.
Do the worksheets say 2027 on them?
Three do: the resolutions page, the sentence starters and the four-area goals are printed for 2027. The looking back and looking ahead page, the habit tracker and the word search have no year, so they can be reused every January.
Is there an answer key?
Only the word search has an answer, and its solution is page 2 of that PDF with every hidden word highlighted. The other five sheets are writing and planning pages with no single right answer.
Can I print them in black and white?
Yes. The lines, boxes and grids are drawn in solid black and the small pictures have bold outlines, so every sheet stays clear on a mono printer.
Is this set free for classroom use?
Yes, for non-commercial educational use: a class set, a homeschool group or a kitchen table are all fine.
More practice
Once a resolution is written, the reward chart printables and sticker charts give a young child a way to see it through, and the chore chart printables turn "help at home" into a weekly routine. For the beginning-of-year getting-to-know-you lesson, see the all about me worksheets. More puzzles in the same style are in the word search printables, and the handwriting paper has blank versions of the dashed-midline lines used here.
