This page is the map. The first sheet shows the whole sequence with typical ages and the sign that a child is ready to move on. How to use these worksheets
Print the guide first and find where your child is. Then print only the sampler for that material and, if it goes well, the full set on its own page. Paper always follows the material: build the number with real beads or rods (or the printed versions) many times before the worksheet.
- Ages 3½ to 4½: rods and numerals. The rods sheet is counting; the numerals sheet is tracing. Trace with a finger first, then a pencil, the way a sandpaper numeral is traced.
- Age 4 to 4½: counters. Lay real counters in pairs before the sheet. The odd one at the bottom on its own is the whole lesson.
- Ages 4 to 5: bead stair. Say the colors as well as the numbers: "the yellow four and the green two make six". The colors are how children remember quantities later.
- Ages 4½ to 5½: golden beads and teen board. Golden beads first (a ten is a bar of ten), teen board second (a ten and some more). Write the tens digit in blue and the units in green if you have the pencils.
- Ages 5 to 6: hundred board and strip board. The hundred board sheet is about patterns (look down a column); the strip board sheet is the first look at addition facts.
- Ages 5½ to 6½: stamp game. Counting stamps by color is the entry point; the full set moves on to addition with exchanging.
Common mistakes to watch for
- Going by age instead of readiness. The ages on the guide are typical. Use the "sign of mastery" column to decide when to move on.
- Skipping the material. A worksheet given before the material becomes symbol-pushing. If a sheet is hard, go back to the beads.
- Too many sheets at once. One sampler a day, then the full set for the material that clicks.
Frequently asked questions
Are worksheets really Montessori?
Montessori classrooms use paper for recording work after the child has worked with the material. These sheets are that recording step, drawn to look like the real beads, rods and stamps so the child recognizes them. They are not a replacement for hands-on work.
What order should the materials go in?
Number rods, sandpaper numerals, spindle boxes, cards and counters, bead stair, golden beads, teen and ten boards, hundred board, addition strip board, stamp game. The guide sheet lists this order with ages.
Which sheets have answer keys?
Counters: odd or even and Read the addition strip board have answers on page 2. The other eight are counting, tracing and fill-in sheets that are checked by looking.
Is this the same as your Montessori worksheets page?
No. The Montessori worksheets page is the original bead set with the sequence chart, bead color chart and place value mat. This page is the newer overview: an age guide plus one fresh sheet from each material, linking to the full set for each.
Can I use these in a classroom?
Yes. The PDFs are free for home and classroom use. Print the guide for parents at a curriculum evening; it explains the sequence in one page.
