These five winter coloring pages are full-page outdoor scenes. The first shows two penguins in hats and scarves hugging under the words "walking in a Winter Wonderland", with snowflakes around them. The second has three children in hats, coats and scarves standing in falling snow, with houses and bare trees behind them. How to use these coloring pages
Print at 100% on A4 or US Letter, one scene per sheet. All five are black outlines on white, so a black cartridge prints the set. Copier paper is fine for crayons and colored pencils, and cardstock is better for markers or paint. A gray or pale blue pencil is worth having out for these pages, since most of the picture is snow.
- Penguins in a winter wonderland. The lettering above the penguins suits a child who can read it, so use this one with grades 1 and 2. Ask for the two penguins to match, then let the hats and scarves clash.
- Three children in the snowy village. Hats, coats and scarves for three figures, so the child must keep track of who is wearing what. Do the falling snow last and leave the flakes white.
- Snowman between pine trees. Best first page for a preschooler: the snowman body is one big open shape. Talk about the distant house and hills being smaller than the snowman up front.
- Child building a snowman. Two figures side by side, a child in a pom-pom hat and a snowman in a top hat. Ask the child to color their own coat in the colors they actually own.
- Ice skating by the pine trees. Lots of pine trees to fill in, which is good repetition. Try two greens, a dark one on the shaded side of each tree and a lighter one on the other.
Making it a lesson
- How do you color snow? Leave the snow white and use pale blue or gray only for shadows under the snowman and the skater. It is a real artist problem and children enjoy solving it.
- Dress for the weather. Name every warm item on the page, hat, scarf, coat, mittens, and ask why the skater needs them. Cold weather safety fits naturally here.
- Talk about the animals. Penguins do not live where children build snowmen. A two minute detour about where penguins really live sticks better than a worksheet.
- Turn one into a card. Glue a finished page to folded card for a winter greeting, then write a short message inside. The lettering page works especially well for this.

Preschool to grade 2, about ages 3 to 8. The snowman pages have large open shapes for the youngest children. The penguin lettering, the snowflakes and the bare tree branches give older children finer work.
Do I need color ink?

What paper should I print on?
