These five summer coloring pages show children playing outdoors, each under a smiling sun and a few clouds. The first has two children splashing in a round paddling pool in front of a house, with a parasol and a beach ball. The second shows a boy and a girl in caps riding bicycles side by side along a road. The third is a girl with a heart on her dress standing among large flowers, with a tree, mountains, pine trees and a rainbow behind her. The fourth is a beach scene: a boy and girl dig with a shovel and buckets beside a sandcastle, with a beach umbrella, ball and shells. The fifth is a second bike ride, two children cycling along a curving road past trees, bushes and a flower bed, with birds in the sky.
What Students Will Practice
- Fine motor control on varied shapes: sun rays, clouds, flower petals, bicycle wheels and sandcastle walls
- Warm colors for the sun, sand and flowers, and blues and greens for sky, grass and pool water
- Filling large background areas such as the road, the meadow and the beach, not just the figures
- Seasonal vocabulary: paddling pool, parasol, sandcastle, shovel, bucket, rainbow
- Focus during a calm, screen-free activity at home, at camp or on a trip
The pages suit ages 3 to 8, from preschool through second grade. The paddling pool and sandcastle scenes have the largest shapes for the youngest colorers; the two bike rides and the meadow have more small details.

How to use these coloring pages
Print at 100% on A4 or US Letter, one scene per sheet. The pages are black outlines on white, so no color ink is needed. Copier paper suits crayons and colored pencils; switch to cardstock for markers or paint so the color does not bleed through. A clipboard and a pack of pencils makes these travel well on a car trip or a camp afternoon.
- Kids in a paddling pool. The largest shapes of the five, so start here with a three or four year old. Do the pool water last and let the child choose how blue it should be.
- Boy and girl in caps riding bikes. The two figures are nearly a matching pair. Ask the child to give each rider a different shirt but the same road and sky, which forces a deliberate choice rather than random filling.
- Girl in a flower meadow with rainbow. Save this one for a child who can plan ahead. Talk through the rainbow order before any pencil touches it, then work outward: girl, flowers, tree, mountains, sky.
- Building a sandcastle on the beach. Big simple areas of sand and sea for younger colorers. Point out the shovel, buckets, shells and umbrella and ask what each one is for.
- Bike ride past trees and flowers. The busiest page, with a curving road, bushes, a flower bed and birds. Sharp colored pencils beat crayons here. Break it into two sittings rather than pushing to finish.
Making it a lesson
- Warm and cool. Name the warm colors for the sun, sand and flowers and the cool ones for sky, water and grass. Ask the child to sort their pencils into two piles first.
- Build the vocabulary. Paddling pool, parasol, sandcastle, shovel, bucket and rainbow all appear. Say each word, point to it, then ask the child to find it again on another page.
- Fill the background. Children color the people and stop. Ask for the road, the meadow and the sea to be finished too, so the page looks complete and the hand gets more practice.
- Add a caption. Grade 1 and 2 children can write one sentence about their own summer day underneath. Five pages then become a small holiday journal.
Frequently asked questions
What ages are these summer pages for?
Ages 3 to 8, preschool through second grade. The paddling pool and sandcastle scenes have the biggest shapes for the youngest colorers. The two bike rides and the flower meadow carry more small detail for grades 1 and 2.
Do I need a color printer?
No. Each page is a black outline drawing on white, so a black cartridge prints all five. Nothing is pre colored, which is the point.
Which paper works best?
Plain copier paper for crayons and colored pencils. Use cardstock for markers, paint or gel pens, because thin paper wrinkles and the color shows through on the back.
Are these free for camps and classrooms?
Yes. Print as many copies as you need for a class, a summer camp, a library session or home. Please link to this page instead of rehosting the PDF files.
How do I stretch a page past ten minutes?
Ask for a background as well as the figures, then a sentence about the scene, then a color the child has not used yet. Talking about the picture doubles the time on task.
