The 5 times table is one of the friendliest to learn because every answer ends in 5 or 0, and most children already know the pattern from counting nickels or reading a clock face. These six worksheets take a child from reading the table to instant recall. Sheet one is a chart and practice page: the 5 times table up to 5 × 12 written out on the left, and the same facts with blank answers on the right to cover and fill in. Sheet two is mixed practice: twenty-four 5 times table questions in random order, made for timing. Sheet three is a missing number worksheet: each fact has a gap in place of a factor, such as 5 × __ = 35, which quietly introduces division by 5. The fourth sheet is a multiples of 5 coloring grid: color every multiple of 5 on a 1 to 100 grid, finish six count-in-5s sequences and describe the pattern the colored squares make, with an answer key on page 2.

How to Use These Worksheets
Print at 100% on A4 or US Letter paper. Spread the six sheets across several short sessions.
- Sheet one: chart and practice. Read the table out loud three times. Point out that the answers go 5, 10, 15, 20: the same as counting nickels or the minute marks on a clock. Cover the left side and fill in the right.
- Sheet two: mixed practice. Twenty-four questions in random order. Time it, write the time at the top, and repeat in a few days to beat it.
- Sheet three: missing numbers. 5 × __ = 35 asks “how many fives make 35?” Encourage counting in 5s on fingers if a child is stuck: five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, thirty, thirty-five is seven fingers.
- Sheet four: multiples grid. Color every multiple of 5 on the 1 to 100 grid, then fill the gaps in the six counting sequences. Ask what pattern the colored squares make before checking the answer key on page 2; it is the quickest way to spot a 5 times table answer that is wrong.
- Use the clock. Each number on an analog clock marks five minutes. 5 × 7 = 35 is the same as the minute hand pointing at 7. Children who are learning to tell time get both skills at once.
- Halve the 10s. If a child knows 10 × 8 = 80, then 5 × 8 is half of that. This is a fast strategy for the bigger facts.
Common Mistakes to Watch For
- Answers that do not end in 5 or 0: Every answer in the 5 times table ends in 5 or 0. Teach children to check this before moving on.
- Mixing up 5 × 6 and 5 × 7: 30 and 35 are close and easy to swap. Say “even number times five ends in zero” as a check.
- Counting from 5 every time: Fine at first, but the mixed sheet should be done from memory or by halving the 10s.
- Reading 5 × __ = 35 as addition: Point back to the chart on sheet one where 5 × 7 = 35 is written out.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age or grade is the 5 times table for?
Children usually learn the 5 times table at age 6 to 8, in second or third grade in the US and year 2 or 3 in the UK, straight after the 2s and 10s.
Why learn the 5s before the 3s and 4s?
The 5s have an obvious pattern (answers end in 5 or 0), they match skip counting by 5s and the minute marks on a clock, and they are exactly half of the 10 times table. That makes them much easier to remember than the 3s or 4s.
Do these worksheets include answers?
Sheet one shows the complete table with answers on its left half and doubles as the answer key for the first three sheets; the multiples grid, the wheels and the divide-by sheet each have their own answer key on page 2.
How can I make the 5 times table stick?
Count nickels, read the minute hand on a clock, and play “halve the tens”: say a 10 times fact, and have your child halve the answer for the 5 times fact. A few minutes a day beats one long session.
