A wall growth chart you can print at home, plus the pages that make it worth keeping: a record table so the measurements survive a move, a comparison chart that turns "you grew an inch" into something a six year old can picture, and a hand and foot print page for the baby book. The ruler strips are drawn in exact millimeters, so when the PDF prints at 100% the inch and centimeter marks are true to scale. The assembly guide carries a 10 cm bar and a 4 in bar; measure them with a ruler before you cut, and if they are right, the chart is right.
What's in this set
- Growth chart assembly guide. A one-page guide: what you need, five steps (print at 100%, cut, join on the glue tabs, hang with the bottom edge exactly 24 in / 61 cm above the floor, measure), the 10 cm and 4 in print check bars and a strip-order diagram showing where the strips overlap.
- Growth chart ruler strips 24 to 60 inches. Two A4 pages, two strips each. Strip 1 runs 24 to 33 in, strip 2 33 to 42, strip 3 42 to 51 and strip 4 51 to 60 in. Inches with half- and quarter-inch ticks on the left edge, centimeters (61 to 152 cm, labeled every 5 cm) on the right edge, a star every 3 inches, and a hatched glue tab at the top of strips 1 to 3 with the line the next strip sits on. The middle of each strip is left clear for names and dates.
- Height record page. Twenty rows for date, age, height in inches, height in centimeters and who measured, with the conversion (1 in = 2.54 cm) and measuring tips at the foot.
- How tall am I compared to... A bar chart on an inch and centimeter scale with seven typical heights to color: house cat (10 in), big dog (24 in), kitchen counter (36 in), door handle (40 in), emperor penguin (45 in), fridge (66 in) and newborn giraffe (72 in), plus a dashed ME bar to color up to your own height.
- Hand and foot print record. Four large outline boxes, a hand and a foot now and the same pair one year later, each with date and age lines.
What's useful about them
- A chart on the wall makes growth visible to the child, which is why children love being measured.
- Inches and centimeters side by side mean the same chart works for a US family and for grandparents who think in metric.
- The record page keeps the numbers when the strips come off the wall (moving house, repainting), and it is the table a pediatrician will ask about.
- The comparison chart is a gentle first lesson in reading a scale and a bar chart.
- The hand and foot page gives you two prints a year apart with no special equipment.

Teaching tips and common mistakes
How to use these growth chart printables
Print the strips page on plain paper or light card at 100% ("actual size"; turn off "fit to page" or "shrink to fit"). The pages are A4; on US Letter the strips still fit, because every strip is shorter than the sheet. Check the bars on the guide page with a ruler before cutting anything.
- Assembly guide. Read it once with your child. The two things that go wrong are printing with scaling on (the check bars catch this) and hanging the bottom edge at the wrong height. Measure 24 in (61 cm) up from the floor with a tape measure and mark the wall before you tape.
- Ruler strips. Cut each strip on its solid outline, keeping the gray tab at the top. Lay the bottom edge of strip 2 on the thick line of strip 1's tab (that is the 33 in line) and tape it. Repeat for strips 3 and 4. Tape the finished chart to a door or wall with removable tape or poster strips. Measure with shoes off, heels against the wall, and a flat book on the head; mark where the book meets the chart and write the name and date beside the mark.
- Height record page. Fill in a row every time you measure. Twice a year is plenty; children ages 4 to 10 grow about 2 to 3 in (5 to 7 cm) a year, so monthly measurements mostly show noise. Keep this page in the baby book or taped behind the chart.
- How tall am I compared to... Help your child find their height on the left axis and rule a line straight across. Color every bar the line passes over (the things they are taller than), then color the ME bar up to the line. Heights are typical, not exact, which is a good conversation in itself.
- Hand and foot print record. Trace around a hand and a foot with a pencil, or use washable paint. Fill in the top two boxes now and the bottom two in a year. Hands and feet grow faster than most parents expect; the page makes that visible.
Tips
- If you want the chart to start lower than 24 in (for a baby or toddler), tape a plain strip below strip 1 and extend the marks with a tape measure; the chart was kept to four strips so it fits on two sheets.
- Write each measurement in a different color per child so siblings can read their own line.
- Birthday mornings are the easiest date to remember for a yearly measurement.
Frequently asked questions
Is the printable growth chart true to scale?
Yes, when printed at 100%. Every tick is placed in exact millimeters (one inch is 25.4 mm) and the assembly guide carries a 10 cm bar and a 4 in bar to check. If the bars measure short or long, the print was scaled; print again with "fit to page" turned off.
What heights does the chart cover?
24 in to 60 in, which is 61 cm to 152 cm: roughly age two to age twelve for most children. Four strips of 9 inches each, two per A4 page.
Does it show inches and centimeters?
Yes. Inches with quarter-inch ticks run up the left edge of each strip and centimeters, labeled every 5 cm, run up the right edge. The record page has a column for each.
Can I print it on US Letter paper?
Yes. Choose actual size (100%), not fit to page. Each strip is shorter than a Letter sheet, so nothing is cut off; the margin is simply a little smaller.
Is this set free?
Yes, for non-commercial use at home, in a classroom or at a daycare.
